Illustration is the art of telling a story. In a broad sense the theme behind most of my art is the idea of the narrative; a narrative to me is an image or series of images that are used to convey some type of story to the viewer. It is my goal to attempt to make art that can be easily understood by the viewer so that they can enjoy the story that I am trying to convey. Illustration is my primary way to create an image that follows a narrative as it follows a process that helps to eliminate things which do not make sense and to create as clear an image as possible.
The process for creating a story; I find does not follow a set path and it is always a little different as to what step is approached first. Sometimes the characters are made before a story, or a world is created that needs characters to fill it. Storytelling and Illustration start with an idea that is usually written down--the idea is sometimes a quirky concept or design--for illustration the process that I choose to follow is less cut and paste and does not allow much jumping around. An illustration usually starts with a written statement or description, goes to thumbnails, to rough sketches, to a finished sketch, and finally to a finished piece this process helps to eliminate mistakes and confusion well before the end product.
