To me, art is like an unspoken language. It has the power to relay a message, evoke emotion or spark the imagination. I am surrounded by artistic inspiration. From food to architecture to the people I pass by, I find creative inspiration everywhere. When creating a design for a specific audience, our shared experiences deepen the connection between the viewer and the design.
When approaching a project my process always begins with research. I find that the more questions I ask, the better the design. What is my subject matter? Who is my audience? And what is my goal? I then translate my ideas to pen and paper, which allows me to organize my thoughts and hone in on a clear design direction. The strongest concepts are further developed on the computer where I use various design programs to bring my ideas to life.
My design philosophy is that generally less is more. I have always gravitated towards a minimalistic style. The fewer marks I make, the more room there is left for thought and interpretation by the viewer. This idea can be hard to accomplish well, because there is a fine line between simple and boring. I also like to develop my designs with touches of historic and modern accents. The juxtaposition of old and new helps to create a design with timeless appeal.
As I continue to grow as a designer my goal will always remain the same, for my designs to leave an impression on the audience. I want their eyes to leave my work, but their minds to stay.
